It’s the Year of the Rabbit!

It’s the Year of the Rabbit!

If you have visited South Hills Academy recently, you may have noticed the incredibly lovely red and gold decorations throughout the campus. These have been put up in honor of the Lunar New Year.

Our student body is made up of children from all over the world, including many parts of Asia, where the Lunar New Year has a high cultural significance. It’s a time to start fresh and pray for a bountiful harvest.

There are twelve creatures featured in the Chinese Zodiac and each animal means a different theme of each new year. 2023 is the year of the rabbit. The rabbit represents longevity, peace, and prosperity. I think it’s safe to say we would all welcome a year of peace.

To commemorate this tradition, our Chinese teacher, Ms. TingTing, has been hard at work putting together a celebration for our SHA Eagles to partake in this coming Friday, January 20th. Everything starts at 9:20am and parents are invited. There will be food, music, presentations, and even a dragon dance! We encourage all our SHA Eagles to wear red that day, as it’s the traditional color of the Lunar New Year.

We are looking forward to celebrating with all our SHA family this coming Friday! Happy Lunar New Year!
