Benefits of Summer Camp and How SHA Makes it Count

Benefits of Summer Camp and How SHA Makes it Count

Summer offers children a much-needed break, but it’s also a valuable opportunity to keep growing—in ways that aren’t always possible during the school year. At South Hills Academy, our summer camp is built around that idea. It’s not just about staying busy; it’s about building confidence, discovering new interests, and creating friendships in a supportive, faith-centered environment.

Students entering Grades 1–8 design their own experience by choosing 45-minute classes that match their interests. Academic support is available through English Language Arts and Math/Science classes, giving campers the chance to strengthen core skills and stay sharp over the summer—but participation is entirely up to the family’s goals and preferences.

Beyond academics, students explore a wide range of hands-on, interest-based activities. In Creative Arts, campers dive into projects inspired by artists like Kandinsky and Keith Haring. There’s also STEM, sports, swimming, music (including boomwhackers), and a growing favorite: computer class, where students develop practical digital skills like typing and presentations.

Another standout class is Culinary Arts. Each day features a different recipe, giving students the chance to learn kitchen basics while preparing simple dishes. They not only gain real-world skills but also enjoy the reward of eating what they’ve made.

Wednesdays bring a change of pace with optional field trips to places like mini golf, the California Science Center, or Medieval Times. Campers who remain on campus participate in special themed activities, giving everyone something to look forward to midweek.

The entire program reflects the values South Hills Academy holds year-round—leadership, confidence, creativity, and friendship. Every activity is designed to support each child’s growth socially, emotionally, and intellectually in a welcoming, faith-based setting.

Families can enroll on a weekly basis, and registration will remain open until spots are filled. With flexible scheduling and a wide variety of class options, SHA’s summer camp gives students a season of learning, exploration, and connection.
