Math Olympics – Going for the Golden Ratio!

Math Olympics – Going for the Golden Ratio!

Ah, the Olympic games . . . the best and the brightest coming together to compete for gold, silver, and bronze medals and representing their respective countries while folks gather to watch on television sets, live stream events on their computers, and cheer their favorites on to glory!

Well, we might not have had any television crews or national anthems blaring over loudspeakers, but South Hills Academy recently hosted a different type of Olympic games. The SHA campus, with Mr. Davila and Mr. Ferralez leading the way, was proud to host the ACSI Math Olympics where students from several different campuses, including our own SHA Eagles competed in solving elite level math problems. We were proud to welcome students from across the San Gabriel Valley to our Eagle’s Nest to participate in this event.

At the end of the day, the winners were announced and cheers from parents and teachers alike rang out loud and clear. Our winners included:

* 3rd grade computation – 1st place – Isabella Tang

*  3rd grade computation – 2nd place – Erica Miao

*  4th grade computation – 2nd place – Ethan Luu

*  4th grade computation – 3rd place – Vinh Le

*  7th grade computation  – 1st place – Braden Cher

*  8th grade computation – 4th place – Daoxi Wen (Tony)

*  8th grade computation – 5th place – Xinyi So (Sophia)

*  4th grade reasoning – 1st place – Amelia Zhen

*  4th grade reasoning – 4th place – Damien Garcia

 One of the best parts of the day was seeing the fellowship of both students and adults across the campus as people exchanged greetings, conversations, and even a few phone numbers so that they could continue to keep in touch with each other.

We hope that South Hills Academy can continue to create more opportunities for our students to challenge themselves intellectually and to foster new friendships with fellow students.
