South Hills Academy is located in West Covina, a city sitting comfortably next to Los Angeles. Its location makes it a perfect drive to the coast and almost every Southern California university. It is minutes away from sceneries that are normally not accessible like beautiful valley peaks, serene ocean views, and exciting mountain hikes.
In a typical school year, there are about 40 international students enrolled (nearly 10% of the student body) from over 12 different countries around the world.
SHA utilizes rolling admission for our application process. There is no deadline on applications and we accept students year round.
We require interested students to fill out an application form, provide a copy of their passport, and submit their transcripts for the last 3 years.
No. SHA does not require entrance exam scores as a part of the application process. However, these scores provide significant insight into the student’s English language proficiency.
Yes. Students applying for middle school or high school must take part in a virtual interview. The interview is a great opportunity for us to get to know your family and for you to ask questions and get to know SHA better.
SHA is looking for well-rounded students who can succeed in a competitive college preparatory environment. There is no minimum requirement for GPA or standardized test score.
Once an applicant finishes the virtual interview with SHA’s admission office, an email will be sent to the student to inform them of the decision. This is typically within 3 business days.
Accepted international students will be issued an I-20 after they have submitted the required $5,000 tuition deposit.

Yes. SHA offers need-based financial assistance to qualifying families. SHA also provides scholarship opportunities based on a student’s entire application.
Students who have been offered admission to SHA will receive an invoice with specific details on the payment deadline and instructions for submitting payment. SHA does have some sources of financial aid to help cover this amount, depending upon the student’s family financial circumstances. The I-20 is not issued until the required payment has been received.
Yes. The Eagle’s Nest is a home away from home for some of SHA’s international students. Dorm accommodations include high-speed Internet, coin-operated laundry room, dining hall, and entertainment hall.
Yes. Some of SHA’s own families participate in this program. They are excited to provide international students an opportunity to experience the American way of life.
Yes. Upon arrival all international students are evaluated to determine if an ESL course is needed.
