23 Aug Christ Centered and Community Service

South Hills Academy requires 20 hours of community service for our middle school students and 40 hours of community service for our high school students. We had several students the past few days earning their community service hours by helping get our campus ready to welcome our eagles back for the 2022-2023 school year.
One of the student learning outcomes of South Hills Academy is that our young people are “Christ centered.” Serving the community is a part of being Christ centered. We are told in Mark 10:45 “For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
In today’s pop culture, the phrase “community service” can sometimes be seen as a pejorative. We’ve witnessed more than a few celebrities being sentenced to community service as a punishment for breaking society’s rules. But at its heart, community service is about putting the needs of others ahead of ourselves. It’s a blessing to serve others. South Hills Academy strives to instill in our students the importance of community service and taking care of our surrounding communities.
There are many good reasons for participating in community service opportunities including developing a connection to your community, raising social awareness for your community, it establishes contacts and friendships, helps to improve your own skills and talents, and ultimately benefits your future career prospects.
South Hills Academy will continue in our tradition of serving our surrounding communities.
