09 Sep Back to School Night – Part 1
Calling all South Hills Academy parents! It’s the most wonderful time of the year! (No, don’t panic, it’s not Christmas yet!) It’s time for Back to School Night at SHA!
We were so happy to welcome all our lovely eagles back to the nest last week. It was such a joy to be back in person after 18 months of virtual learning. So far, our students have been quite responsible and diligent about masks, handwashing, and social distancing. When we started to have some small group face to face classes last spring, we were one of the only schools that didn’t have to completely shut back down again due to COVID cases. Everyone at SHA is committed to doing our part to make sure that our campus can stay a safe and open place for our children to learn face to face.
Back to school night is quite common among schools all over the country. How they operate depends on each individual campus, but they usually consist of parents getting to step into their children’s shoes and seeing what they see on a daily basis. Parents get to see all the classrooms, meet their child’s teachers, and get a feel for what the campus is like.
Now normally, we would love to have you all come to the SHA nest and go from classroom to classroom to see all the fun and creative activities that our eagles have been up to during their first week and a half of school. However, the safety of our school community always comes first. Our family of eagles has grown, which is wonderful. However, this means more face to face exposure with large groups of people, which raises the risk of viral transmission. If that happens, school would have to close while folks quarantine, and that is the last thing we want to happen. Because we are still living in the time of COVID-19 and the Delta variant, we will be conducting our Back to School Night virtually. This week, the teachers have been preparing for their close-up and have filmed an introduction to themselves and their classroom for you to watch.
The links for these videos will be posted here in part 2 of the Back to School Night blog tomorrow, as well as in the newsletter that will be sent out to all of our parents. We hope you will log on and join us on our virtual tour of South Hills Academy.
